84-year-old hit by vehicle in McLean dies

WASHINGTON – An 84-year-old woman is dead after a vehicle struck her in a Fairfax County crosswalk Thursday.

Fairfax County police say say a 56-year-old driver in a Dodge Charger attempted to turn left onto Chain Bridge Road from Laughlin Avenue in McLean, Va., when he hit Elvira Slijepcevic at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday. She was in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, police say.

Emergency crews transported Slijepcevic, a McLean resident, to a local hospital where she died.

Officials say speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. They have not released information about the speed the driver traveled at the time of the crash.
