McAuliffe expects proposed Bi-County Parkway would deserve funding, help Dulles

WASHINGTON – The Bi-County Parkway, which would connect Prince William and Loudoun Counties, has entered a priority review process, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said earlier this week.

Leesburg Today reports the governor expects the parkway will earn a high rating when compared to other transportation projects being considered for Northern Virginia. The governor made the comment during a Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday.

McAuliffe and other advocates say the road would increase cargo operations for Dulles and help keep the airport growing.

The nearly 10.5-mile controversial Bi-County Parkway would stretch from Route 234 at Interstate 66 in Prince William County to U.S. Route 50 in Loudoun County and run north and south.

Advocates say it would be good for economic development. The Coalition for Smarter Growth, a critic of the plan, says it will not relieve any congestion but would add to congestion, the Washington Post reported.
