Richmond Ballet members visiting China

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Members of the Richmond Ballet are participating in an event to promote cultural understanding between America and China.

Officials say the organization’s artistic director and managing director are attending the forum in Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday.

The U.S. Department of State’s 2014 Cultural Pillar Delegation for the US-China Consultation on People-to-People Exchange includes Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong.

The Richmond Ballet’s managing director Brett Bonda says he believes that dance serves as a strong and meaningful language of mutual cultural exchange and respect.

In March, officials announced that the Richmond Ballet is planning to head to China in May 2015 to perform at the 15th Annual ‘Meet in Beijing’ Arts Festival in Beijing.
