Woman attacked in Wheaton, police release suspect image

WASHINGTON – A woman was attacked during an evening jog in Wheaton and police are looking for her assailant.

Montgomery County police were called to a local hospital Tuesday night for a report of the assault. Police learned that the 36-year-old woman was jogging in the 1700 block of Poplar Run Drive about 9:15 p.m. when she passed someone on the sidewalk.

That person threw her to the ground and hit her in the face, breaking her orbital bone, which surrounds the eye. He continued to hold her on the ground until the woman screamed. He fled when he heard the woman’s boyfriend calling her name, police say.

Police released a composite image of the man who assaulted the woman. He was described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s. He weighed about 165 pounds and was about 5-foot-7 with a lean, muscular build. He had medium length, wavy, black hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing a gray hoodie over a white T-shirt plus black basketball shorts and sneakers. He also smelled of sweat and alcohol.

Anyone who could help identify the man is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530 or to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
