WASHINGTON – Spring signifies many things in D.C.: Cherry blossoms, farmers markets, picnics in the park — the list goes on. The season also means it’s time for Passport D.C., a month-long celebration of international activities.

On Saturday, May 4, more than 40 international embassies opened their doors to the public to share their respective country’s food, drink, art, music and customs.

From the chicken pate puffs at the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti, to the bowls of noodles at the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and even the shots of rum at the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, participants received a true taste of travel.

On May 11, more than 40 European embassies will follow suit with their open houses, and on Saturday, May 18, the National Asian Heritage Festival will takeover Pennsylvania Avenue.

Other activities for the sixth annual event, which runs through May 31, include art exhibits, demonstrations and performances at various locations, such as the Inter- American Development Bank Art Gallery, the Textile Museum and the Kennedy Center, among others.

For a full list of activities, visit the Passport D.C. program guide online. Several of the events are free and open to the public.
