D.C. tops list of highest-paying cities for women

WASHINGTON – Women looking to earn a high-paying salary should head to the nation’s capital.

D.C. is the highest-paying city for women, with full-time women earning an median income of $57,128, according to Forbes.

Forbes’ list of cities where women earn the highest salaries is based on more than 500 metropolitan cities in the United States and data from the 2011 American Community Survey by the U.S. Census.

Even though women in D.C. earn triple the salary compared to women in the worst-paying city — Opelousas, La. — Washingtonian women still only earn 81 percent as much as men who make a median salary of $70,758.

Here’s the top 10 highest-paying cities for women:

  2. San Jose, Calif. — $56,499
  3. Bridgeport, Conn. — $54,844
  4. San Francisco, Calif. — $54,376
  5. Trenton, N.J. — $52,319
  6. Torrington, Conn. — $50,200
  7. Boston, Mass. — $50,020
  8. Hartford, Conn. — $49,891
  9. Boulder, Colo. — $49,691
  10. Napa, Calif. — $48,985
