Crowdfunding becomes option for holiday gift giving

WASHINGTON – Giving a holiday gift to the person who is always hard to buy for doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

This season, giving a gift that makes a difference is easier with the first-ever crowdfunded hospital gift catalog.

The new online catalog, GiveMiracles.org, lists several beneficiaries, including Children’s National Medical Center. It offers a variety of gifts at a wide range of price points.

For example, gift givers can cover the cost of the extra small diapers for premature babies, or go in with a group on a larger item, such as a pediatric first responder’s kit.

Donors can even receive updates on how their gift was put to use or launch their own personalized crowdfunding campaign to collectively purchase big-ticket, high- impact medical items through small donations from friends and family via social media channels.
