Rare video footage shows Pennsylvania Ave. in 1900s

WASHINGTON – Street trolleys and women carrying parasols aren’t images that immediately call to mind D.C., but that’s what the city looked like in the early 1900s.

A video has surfaced showing Pennsylvania Avenue between 10th and 11th streets near the turn of the century, complete with horse and buggies and retro billboards advertising corsets, reports Ghosts of DC.

The film clip was made from a 35 mm negative and allegedly obtained from the Brook Foundation Collection, which is an offshoot of a Thomas Edison company, according to Ghosts of DC.
