Whole Foods recalls Ricotta Salata Frescolina for possible listeria contamination

WASHINGTON – Whole Foods Market is recalling Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand cheese sold in 21 states and Washington, D.C. for a possible listeria contamination.

Forever Cheese Inc. in Long Island City, N.Y. supplied the cheese.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, older people or those with weakened immune systems, but the healthy can also become ill in the short-term.

Symptoms include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

In some cases Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
