Travel prices drop after Labor Day

WASHINGTON – If London has long been on your list of travel destinations, September may be the month to do it. Not only do travel prices drop after Labor Day, but following the Olympics, Europe will need people to fill hotel rooms.

Smart Money says prices will drop 60 percent in September compared with last year. But London isn’t the only destination travelers can find deals.

Here are a couple more:

Hilton Head, S.C.: The weather is still nice in September and there’s golf and plenty of beach to explore. Rates at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa will drop 17 percent. Some oceanfront properties will drop nearly 40 percent in price. Another plus: Hilton Head has a lower hurricane risk, but it’s still good to ask about cancellation policies.

Southern California: In San Diego, the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina has rates starting at just $99 a night. Hotels near Disneyland are an additional 10 percent cheaper compared with this time last year. But be careful, amusement parks may raise ticket prices to offset hotel costs.
