WASHINGTON – “Variety” magazine called it “Non Fiction Nirvana.”
The film industry calls it the premiere documentary film festival in the country, and lucky for us, it’s held at one of my favorite theaters in the area.
The AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring will host 27,000 guests and screen films from more than 60 countries for the 10th annual SILVERDOCS festival.
It runs Monday through Sunday, featuring 14 premieres and bookended by two music documentaries.
The schedule kicks off with “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey,” a tale of a Journey coverband from Manila whose YouTube success got them an audition to sing with the real band.
It closes with “Big Easy Express,” following Mumford & Sons on a six- stop tour to New Orleans.
General admission tickets are $13.
If you can’t make it to Silver Spring, check out the Frederick Film Festival (“F3”) in Frederick, Md.
The 4th annual festival will feature work from local and international filmmakers Friday through Sunday at the Weinberg Center and nearby Cultural Arts Center.
The schedule includes “Time Freak,” recent Oscar nominee for Best Live Action Short.
Tickets for opening night are $10, while all-day passes are $20 for Saturday and Sunday. Weekend passes are $30.
