Get pumped, Virginia burger lovers. You now have your very own Shake Shack — the commonwealth’s first — in Tysons Corner.
Located in the new Plaza at Tysons Corner Center, the ‘Shack is now open and is just a short walk from the Silver Line’s Tysons Corner stop. The fast-casual restaurant will offer the chain’s signature shackburgers, as well as the house-made frozen custard and — much to the delight of fry fans — crinkle fries. (Shake Shack caused much consternation in the foodie world earlier this year when it did away with its crinkle fries in favor of straight-cut fries.)
The shop is also unveiling a dessert specific to the new Tysons location, the Tysons Treat. The frozen custard “concrete” — a ‘Shack creation that mixes custard with fresh fruits, baked goods and other ingredients — includes vanilla custard, bananas, chocolate sprinkles and chocolate graham crackers from Pollystyle bakery.
Shake Shack VP for operations Zach Koff expects to do serious volume at the Tysons plaza location — along the lines of existing stores in Union Station and the Dupont Circle and Penn Quarter neighborhoods of D.C. The newly-opened plaza, with its constant activity is reminiscent, of Shake Shack’s first location in Madison Square Park in Manhattan, Koff said.
“Tysons is such an incredible shopping mecca. We know it will generate so many locals because that’s where so many people go to shop, and then as I look around the plaza and see a new apartment complex, and office tower and a hotel … I expect it to be equally as busy as all of our D.C. locations.”
Pizza Vinoteca: This New York pizza restaurant will open its first D.C. area store in Arlington come September. The combination sit-down pizza parlor and fast-casual spot will come to 800 N. Glebe Road, in the same building as Mussel Bar at the corner of Glebe and Wilson Boulevard.
Pizza Vinoteca features high-tech ordering: In the dining room, guests can order via iPad, and for takeout, customers order at a kiosk and then monitor the progress of their order via LED stock ticker. The restaurant will seat 110 with a 26-seat bar. Pizza is priced between $8 and $15 and the bar offers 36 wines by the glass priced at less than $10 apiece.
Jersey Mike’s: The latest location of sub chain Jersey Mike’s will open Wednesday in Gainesville at 8136 Stonewall Shops Square. Jersey Mike’s is one of several sandwich chains, including Capriotti’s and Jimmy John’s, expanding in the D.C region. The Gainesville Jersey Mike’s will be the fifth location for franchisees Pat and Kathy White, who also own Jersey Mike’s restaurants in Fairfax, Manassas, Culpeper and Chantilly.
