WASHINGTON – Oreo is debuting a new limited edition flavor that is getting a ton of buzz. Maybe it’s the colors, maybe it’s the flavor, but the new Watermelon Oreos are hitting snack aisles this week with a roar of response just in time for the start of summer.

Time magazine first brought attention to the fruity version of the classic cookie and coverage followed from MSN, Huffington Post, and Yahoo! Finance.

The green and pink watermelon-flavored creme sits in a golden Oreo. In the Washington area, WTOP found them at Target and gave our interns the tough task of a taste test.

“They taste like Jolly Ranchers,” intern Savannah Simons says after taking a bite.

“Anytime you do anything with watermelon it’s going to taste like candy,” agreed intern Lindsey Welling.

This is not the first time Oreo has broken it’s chocolate and vanilla creme mold. It has offered seasonal flavors like candy corn for Halloween, peppermint for the holidays and different flavors like banana split, birthday cake, peanut butter and cool mint.

The limited edition Watermelon Golden Oreos pack 150 calories, 21g of carbs, 12g of sugar and 3g of monosaturated fat for two cookies.
