Plane headed to SC diverted because of lightning

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Passengers on a plane flying from Chicago to South Carolina that was struck by lightning are safe in Charleston after completing the last 120 miles of their journey by bus.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport spokeswoman Kaela Harmon tells local media outlets that United Flight 4613 heading for Charleston was diverted to Columbia late Monday afternoon.

The lightning strike knocked out the air conditioning on the plane. There were no injuries.

The 47 passengers were then taken by bus to Charleston.
