MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — Texas billionaire and former presidential candidate H. Ross Perot has donated millions of dollars for a planned $100 million National Medal of Honor Museum on the South Carolina coast.

Perot visited Mount Pleasant on Friday to speak with reporters and tour the existing museum aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. A new, much larger museum is now planned near the Yorktown.

Perot would not say Friday just how much he has given to the museum, which will enshrine those awarded the nation’s highest honor for valor. Museum officials would only say it is in the millions.

If everything goes according to schedule, ground will be broken on the new museum late next year and it could be open to the public in four years.
