RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Fire officials say hot ashes sparked an Oct. 21 fire at an in-home day care in Chesterfield County that killed a 1-year-old boy.
Fire officials on Friday said a trash bag containing ashes from a fire pit had been placed in the garage of the Midlothian home.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1xhvxOJ) reports homeowner Laurie Underwood was watching eight children on the day of the fire, but she didn’t have a required state license to operate an in-home day care for more than five children.
The investigation into the fire is continuing.
