Amherst puts former town hall up for sale

AMHERST, Va. (AP) — Amherst is looking for a new owner for its former town hall.

The town has put the two-story brick building up for sale. The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/1umloBv ) reports that the asking price is $175,000.

Proposals to buy the building will be accepted until Nov. 10.

The building was constructed in 1939 and originally was the site of a bank. The bank transferred the property to the town in 1964.

Amherst bought another building to serve as the town hall in August 2013. Town employees moved into the new town hall this year.
