Defense Department rocket to launch from Va.

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (AP) — NASA is preparing to launch a rocket for the Defense Department from Virginia.

The Terrier-Lynx suborbital rocket is scheduled to launch between midnight and 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The rocket will launch from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. NASA says the rocket may be visible to residents in the Chesapeake Bay region.

The backup launch days are Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.

At the request of the Defense Department, no real-time launch status updates will be made available. The launch also will not be shown live on the Internet and the facility’s visitor center will not be open for viewing the launch.
