Ikea to add production line at Va. plant

DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — Ikea plans to add a new production line at its Danville plant by 2016.

The Danville Register and Bee reports (bit.ly/ZA8uCh) the new line will result in an undetermined number of new jobs.

Recruitment for the new positions has already started. Positions will be posted with the Virginia Employment Commission, and the new hires will be trained along with current employees.

Ikea opened its Danville factory in 2006. It is the company’s only American plant and employs 420 workers. The company expected to hire 740 people when they moved into the site.

The new line will produce lightweight, wood-based home furnishing products. Its products will support the demand of the North American customer base and contribute to the Ikea living room selections.
