Old Dominion holds off Eastern Michigan 17-3

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Freshman Richard Lawry scored on a 55-yard run early in the game and Antonio Vaughan added a 46-yard punt return for a touchdown late as Old Dominion held off Eastern Michigan 17-3 on Saturday night.

Lawry’s touchdown was the only score of the first half despite the Monarchs’ having a 261-113 advantage in total yards. Old Dominion kept picking up large chunks of yards but struggled on third down, converting just 2 of 15 third-down opportunities, one coming on the final possession.

Old Dominion (2-1) got a 26-yard field goal from Ricky Segers in the third quarter and Eastern Michigan got on the board with a 43-yarder from Dylan Mulder in the fourth.

The punt return was set up when Taylor Heinicke’s 66-yard punt was downed at the EMU 7. The Eagles lost three yards on a run and had two incompletions, forcing the punt.
