Va. gas station clerk uses mop to fend off gunman

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia say a gas station clerk used a mop to fend off a masked gunman who demanded money.

A Chesterfield police news release says the suspect entered an Exxon station Thursday, displayed the gun and told the clerk to give him cash from the register.

The release says the clerk fought with the suspect, swung a mop and pulled off his mask. The suspect then fled.

The release didn’t name the clerk. The suspect is described as a bald white male, 5-foot-10 and between 170 and 180 pounds. He was wearing dark gray jeans, a long-sleeved black shirt, dark gloves and sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield police.
