GATE CITY, Va. (AP) — Two United Way organizations in Southwest Virginia serving more than a dozen localities have merged.
United Way Virginia Highlands and United Way of Southwest Virginia announced the merger Wednesday in a news release.
The merger was effective July 31. The combined organization will operate as the United Way of Southwest Virginia.
The combined organization will serve Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Grayson, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise counties, and the cities of Galax and Norton.
Travis Staton is the combined organization’s president and CEO. He was president and CEO of United Way Virginia Highlands.
United Way of Southwest Virginia board chairman Alan Jones Jr. says combining resources, expertise and experience will make the organization better equipped to address the needs of communities throughout the region.
