Clinic in southwest Va. providing care to needy

WISE, Va. (AP) — Thousands are flocking to southwest Virginia for an annual clinic that provides medical, dental and vision care to the working poor and the uninsured.

The Remote Area Medical Clinic is open for business this weekend in Wise. About 3,000 people attended last year.

The Health Wagon is the local organization that spearheads the Wise event.

The Herald-Courier (http://bit.ly/1qo7s88) says the clinic will continue through Sunday, with the doors opening at 6 a.m.

Services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. People seeking only medical attention can get through more quickly since vision and dental are the most sought-after services.

Hundreds of volunteers from across the country turn out to fix food, repair teeth, offer check-ups and perform medical tests.
