RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Opponents of high-rise transmission towers within sight of the shores of Jamestown are pressing their case with the Virginia Supreme Court.
The court has granted a hearing by several groups opposed to the Dominion Virginia Power line over the James River.
Justices will hear an appeal of state utility regulators’ approval of the transmission line. The Army Corps of Engineers has yet to issue permits for the power line.
The line would be strung from towers that would rise nearly 300 feet from the James River.
Preservation and conservation groups have opposed the transmission line, arguing they would be a visual blight from the shores of Jamestown, which was settled 400 years ago.
Dominion counters that the line is needed to serve the state’s growing Tidewater region.
