RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia state Del. Joseph D. Morrissey says there’s no chance he’ll resign after being indicted on charges he had an improper sexual relationship with a teenager.
Morrissey told reporters Tuesday outside the Henrico County Circuit Courthouse that he was innocent of any wrongdoing. He was charged Monday with five counts related to what a special prosecutor alleged was multiple sexual encounters with a 17-year-old teenage girl.
Del. Mark L. Keam called on Morrissey to resign Tuesday. Both Keam and Morrissey are Democrats.
House Speaker William J. Howell, a Republican, has declined to comment on Morrissey. Under the Virginia Constitution, a two-thirds vote is necessary for the House to expel a member.
