Homes sought for 18 kittens rescued in Smyth Co.

MARION, Va. (AP) — The Smyth County Animal Shelter is seeking homes for 18 kittens found abandoned in a box on Pugh Mountain.

Media outlets report that a man walking on a trail found the cardboard box on the side of a road on Saturday.

Animal control officer Kristy Moore says the box didn’t have any holes and there was no food or water. She says the box had been tied with string.

The kittens will be available for adoption after June 27.

Homes also are being sought for other cats and kittens at the shelter. Volunteer Amanda Butler says the 18 kittens’ arrival has put the shelter above capacity and cages are full.
