Fairfax student graduates with perfect attendance

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A new graduate from McLean High School made it through all 13 years of schooling in Fairfax County with perfect attendance.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1qsvtaA ) reports Catherine Overberg never missed a day of school and never stayed home sick from kindergarten to her high school graduation last week.

Overberg says it’s in her to show up. She says that’s how she built her character.

Local school officials say Overberg is among just a few students in the region who achieve the feat. Perfect attendance is so rare, most school systems don’t track attendance over a student’s entire career.

Overberg’s says she was lucky in high school that none of her sports teams played away games that required missing school. And she skipped her “senior skip day” to maintain her record.
