Va. bike thief sentenced to 8 years

WASHINGTON — A 42-year-old man was sentenced to serve eight years in prison on Friday for his role in a series of bike thefts, Arlington County reports in a news release.

Michael Cullen, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to eight counts of grand larceny with the intent to sell and one count of possession of burglarious tools.

He was sentenced to 12 years with four years suspended, says Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney John Lynch.

“Protecting the property of residents is of the utmost importance and thieves such as Michael Cullen will be prosecuted to the fullest,” said Theophani Stamos, Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney.

The Arlington County Police Department says bike thefts are at an all-time high, the release states. As a result, law enforcement agencies increased patrols and surveillance.
