Va. State Trooper injured in collision Friday morning

WASHINGTON – A Virginia State Trooper suffered serious injuries Friday morning after he was thrown off his motorcycle in a car crash.

Sr. Trooper R.D. Best was traveling on his state police-issued Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Route 234 in Prince William County, when a Nissan Altima on Pinnacle Ridge Road pulled across the northbound lanes and directly into the path of the motorcycle.

The trooper was unable to avoid the Nissan and was thrown from the motorcyle.

Virginia State Police say Best was wearing his standard-issue helmet.

The driver of the Nissan, an 86-year-old man from Melbourne, Fla. was not injured and was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
