Chris Brown released in L.A., but still faces court in D.C.

WASHINGTON — Singer Chris Brown is a free man today for the first time in months. But the Grammy-award winning singer, released from Los Angeles County jail, must still face justice later this month in Washington.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s office says Brown was released at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

The singer had been jailed since mid-March both in Los Angeles and D.C. A Los Angeles judge had ordered him into custody for violating probation in the 2009 case in which he was convicted of beating his then-girlfriend, Rihanna

The onetime teen heartthrob has a notice to appear June 25 in D.C. Superior Court. He’s charged with misdemeanor assault for an October 2013 incident outside the W Hotel in downtown D.C.

Brown and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy are accused of hitting a Beltsville man. Hollosy has been found guilty of assault in the case and he’s scheduled to be sentenced June 25th. On the same day Brown is scheduled to face a status hearing, at which a trial date could be set.

Hollosy planned to testify for Brown, but after being convicted in a separate trial, he demanded immunity in exchange for his testimony on behalf of Brown.

Brown’s legal troubles in D.C. can have serious consequences for the singer because the charge came during his probation for the 2009 beating of Rihanna.
