Jury convicts D.C. man in fatal 2012 stabbing

WASHINGTON (AP) — A jury has convicted a District of Columbia man of a fatal stabbing from 2012.

A jury Friday found 32-year-old Jonathan Dawkins guilty of voluntary manslaughter while armed.

During a three-day trial prosecutors told jurors that on May 1, 2012 Dawkins stabbed 33-year-old Dwayne Brisbon in the 400 block of Florida Avenue NW. Brisbon was driving home from the bar Marvin when he pulled over to check on someone he recognized from the bar. Prosecutors said Dawkins, who was with the person, became upset.

Prosecutors said the two argued and that during the fight Dawkins stabbed Brisbon. Brisbon then attempted to drive to a hospital but crashed into Shaw’s Tavern on Florida Avenue. He later died.

Dawkins’ sentencing has been set for Aug. 8.
