Suspect in brutal Shaw neighborhood sex assault nabbed by police

WASHINGTON – A brutal sexual assault occurred in an office in the Northwest D.C. Shaw neighborhood days ago, but now police believe they have nabbed their suspect, reported by ABC 7.

Investigators say a man gained access to an apartment building and entered an office around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning. A woman, who is described by those who know her as a mother of three in her forties, was working alone, according to ABC7.

Police say the man closed the door and committed what has been described as a “chillingly brutal sex assault.” The sound of nearby construction along the 1700 block of 7th Street NW is said to be a possible factor in drowning out screaming or sounds from the victim.

Rape warnings immediately went up throughout the Shaw neighborhood. Investigators received a series of surveillance shots of the suspect.

Police arrested Jahlani Brown, 21, Thursday night. He is charged with first-degree sexual assault.
