On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Friday afternoon, students from Watkins Elementary School honored Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday by reciting his most enduring speech: "I Have a Dream."
The National Day of Service started with President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009 and has occurred every year since. There will be dozens of service projects throughout the D.C. region over the course of the weekend, and the main event will be held Saturday on the National Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Events are being held across Washington in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
The top weekend story in the traffic world concerns Metro track work on the Blue and Orange lines, with the Federal Center SW and Capitol South stations scheduled to be closed.
Several National parks in the D.C. area will be free to get into between Jan. 14 and Jan. 16.
