One more comfortable June day is in store ahead of heat, humidity, and storm chances starting tomorrow. Today will feature more clouds than sun and seasonable highs in the lower 80s. Humidity levels will remain comfortable for early June through the afternoon with a slight increase in humidity this evening, as a warm front approaches the area. An isolated shower or thunderstorm could develop near and west of the Blue Ridge late in the day, though most locations around the immediate metro area should stay dry.

Milder air settles in overnight with increasing humidity levels. Plan for plentiful clouds with isolated showers dotting live radar.

WEDNESDAY:

A warm front lifting across the DMV will bring hotter and noticeably more humid conditions, with afternoon temperatures pushing into upper 80s to lower 90s. Scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely during the afternoon and evening. Some storms could become locally strong, especially along and near the warm front where instability will be increasing. While a severe weather outbreak is not expected at this time, this is the first day of the week that bears close watching for stronger thunderstorms.

Thursday looks and feels like the middle of July. High temperatures surge into the low and middle 90s with tropical humidity pushing heat index values toward or just above 100. First Alert Weather continues to highlight scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms, with the atmosphere becoming increasingly unstable. A few storms may become strong to severe. Anyone with outdoor plans should stay weather aware. There is also the potential for record warmth at both Reagan National and Dulles, although exact records and forecast values will need to be monitored as we get closer. The record at DCA is 101 set in 1911. The record at Dulles is 95 from 2016 and the record at BWI is 99 from 1911.

FRIDAY:

Winds: South 10-15 mph
The hottest and most active weather of the week is expected on Friday ahead of an approaching cold front. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach the middle 90s, with heat index values again climbing into the lower 100s. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening, with an approaching front could that could support strong to severe storms. Damaging wind gusts would be the primary threat, although torrential downpours and frequent lightning are also likely with any stronger cells. Friday may also challenge daily record highs at both DCA and Dulles. The arrival of a cold front Friday night should bring some relief heading into the weekend.
