BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore fire investigators are investigating whether a school playground was intentionally set on fire.

On Friday, parents and children found a charred playground at Matthew Henson Elementary School in west Baltimore. Firefighters say the play area was burned on Thursday.

Baltimore Police Sgt. Eric Kowalczyk tells WJZ-TV (http://cbsloc.al/14OiYfK ) the arson unit is investigating because there appears to be burn damage. But they are still trying to determine whether the fire was an accident or if it was intentionally set.

The damage will likely cost thousands of dollars to repair.
