TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Towson Commons has been sitting empty in the center of downtown Towson for two years, but now the complex is getting a retail tenant.
WJZ-TV (http://cbsloc.al/10ewCWl ) reports the center secured LA Fitness as a major tenant for the largest portion of its retail space. It will turn the now- shuttered movie theater into a 53,000-square-foot fitness facility.
LA Fitness plans to add an indoor lap pool, new windows and other upgrades.
Baltimore County officials hope the new retail presence in downtown will help boost business in the area. Towson Commons is about a quarter mile of retail space and represents about 90 percent of the area's vacancies.
