BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech freshman Malik Mueller has been ruled ineligible to play this season.
Hokies coach James Johnson says the NCAA ruled that Mueller, a native of Ehingen, Germany, has issues with initial eligibility requirements and that he could not be more specific. He says Mueller will remain on scholarship and be able to practice, and that he will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Johnson says he was counting on the 6-foot-3 Mueller to challenge for playing time at both guard spots this season.
Entering his second season as coach, Johnson says the Hokies will have a wide open competition for playing time in the backcourt after the graduation of NCAA scoring champion Erick Green and the transfer of shooting guard Robert Brown.
