Roberts passes for 4 TDs as Yale beats Penn 43-21

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Morgan Roberts completed 26 of 29 passes for 346 yards and four touchdowns to three different receivers as Yale pounded Penn 43-21 in a nationally televised Ivy League clash on Saturday.

Roberts, a 2012 transfer from Clemson, ranks second in the FCS for completion percentage (69.6) and helms an offense that leads the FCS in total and scoring offense. Yale’s scored more than 31 points in every game it’s won this season for the first time since 1892.

Penn (1-5, 1-2) had won 17 of the last 22 meetings, but Yale quickly led 15-0. Tyler Varga had a 23-yard touchdown run (Varga also scored after halftime, finishing with 140 yards) and then Roberts threw the first of two TD strikes to Grant Wallace.

Yale nearly doubled Penn in total yards, 605-333.

Penn’s Alek Torgersen threw three TDs of which Conner Scott caught two and finished with a career-high 167 yards.
