Marshall’s Cato sets NCAA passing touchdown record

MIAMI (AP) — Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato has set an NCAA record, throwing a touchdown pass in his 39th consecutive game.

Cato’s 1-yard throw to Ryan Yurachek with five seconds remaining in the first quarter of the 25th-ranked Thundering Herd’s game at FIU on Saturday set the mark.

He came into the game sharing the Football Bowl Subdivision record with Russell Wilson, who threw a touchdown pass in each of the final 38 games of his career for North Carolina State and Wisconsin from 2009 through 2012.

Cato has 107 career touchdown passes, by far the most of any active player.
