South Carolina hopes to keep is Southeastern Conference title hopes alive. The Gamecocks went 2-1 on its just concluded three-game road trip to draw within a game of Eastern-division leading Missouri, which still face contests with Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Mississippi State starts a brutal three-game stretch (Texas A&M and Alabama the next two weeks) and hope to open with an upset.


Mississippi State left guard Gabe Jackson vs. South Carolina defensive linemen Jadeveon Clowney and Kelcy Quarles. The 6-foot-4, 335-pound Jackson is considered an NFL first-rounder by some and was picked this week as the SEC offensive lineman of the week. He probably won't get the 6-6, 274-pound Clowney and the 6-4, 298 pound Quarles one-on-one much, but he will likely have to provide help to the Bulldogs' tackles.


Mississippi State: WR Jameon Lewis has accounted for nine TDs this season after notching just three in the previous two. Twice this year, he's passed for, caught and rushed for a touchdown in the same game.

South Carolina: QB Connor Shaw is usually at his best when dealing with mid-week injuries and ailments. Earlier this week, he missed practiced with a virus.

FACTS & FIGURES: South Carolina is trying for its 15th straight home victory, which would tie the school record set between 1978-80. ... Mississippi State has won its past four games against SEC East teams, just the second time that's happened since divisional play was adopted in 1992. ... The Gamecocks are seeking their 38th win over a four-year stretch, which would tie the school record set by last year's senior class. ... The last time these teams met in 2011, it was the first season-ending injury for Gamecocks great Marcus Lattimore. The then-sophomore back tore ligaments in his left knee and did not return until 2012. ... Mississippi State is averaging 456 yards a game, on pace to top the school record of 422 set in 1982.
