ANGOLA, La. (AP) -- The family of former running back Billy Cannon says the Heisman Trophy winner has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke, adding that he is "alert and resting." He won the 1959 Heisman Trophy after starring at LSU and went on to a successful pro career with the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders of the AFL. He later attended dental school and currently works at a state penitentiary at Angola, La., where he has been director of the prison's dental program for about 15 years.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Andrew Bynum plans on making his season debut for the Philadelphia 76ers this year, though he's still a week or two away from practicing with the team. The 7-foot center has been sidelined by knee injuries since the Sixers acquired him from the Los Angeles Lakers last summer. He worked out for 80 minutes today and said afterward his knees are feeling better, but he doesn't expect to ever be pain-free.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rangers top-line forward Rick Nash is sitting out his first game of the season tonight because of an undisclosed injury. Nash almost missed Sunday's game due to the ailment before registering one assist and taking eight shots in the Rangers' 2-1 win over Washington. The first-year Ranger has three goals and nine assists this season.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- The threat of bad weather has prompted officials to move Thursday night's Iowa-Nebraska men's basketball game to Saturday at 1 p.m. A winter storm is expected to hit the Midwest forcing the switch to be made for safety reasons.
