PASADENA, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County police say the state medical examiner has determined a Bladensburg police officer who died in a Pasadena crash committed suicide.
Police said Monday that the Medical Examiner's office in Baltimore has ruled the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the upper body and the manner of death as suicide.
Police say the accident occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday. Investigators say Officer Brian Johnson was off duty while driving a marked police cruiser east on Route 100 when the vehicle crossed the median and struck a westbound vehicle. The nine-year veteran died later at a hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released at the scene.
Westbound Route 100 was closed for several hours near the crash site.
