PASADENA, Md. (AP) -- A Bladensburg police officer has died after a crash on Route 100 in Pasadena that may have been caused by a medical emergency.
Anne Arundel County police say the accident occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday. Investigators say Officer Brian Johnson was off duty at the time but was driving a marked police cruiser.
Johnson was traveling east on Route 100 when his cruiser suddenly crossed the median and struck a westbound vehicle. Investigators say Johnson may have suffered a medical emergency before the accident.
Johnson died later at a hospital. He was a nine-year veteran of the Bladensburg police department.
The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released at the scene.
Westbound Route 100 was closed for several hours near the crash site.
