DNA revives search for man missing 18 years

Tuesday - 4/17/2012, 9:50pm  ET

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A recently acquired DNA sample from a missing man's birth mother has brought renewed effort to a search for him.

Anne Arundel County police say no trace of Jimmy Cole, who was 21 when he went missing in 1994, has been found.

Detective John Gajda tells The Capital of Annapolis ( http://bit.ly/J9TU4W) that the search has continued after police obtained a DNA sample from Cole's birth mother in 2010. Cole is adopted.

On Monday, 25 volunteers with nine dog teams searched the woods between Cole's former home and the bar where he was last seen.

Gajda, who's been a police officer for 23 years, says Cole's case may be the only one where someone vanished without a trace.
