Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department firefighters and public safety workers collected more donations than any fire service organization in the nation in their "Fill the Boot" campaign.
They collected more than $561,000 and exceeded their goal of collecting $475,000.
The fire department and organizers are thanking you for your donations.
All of the money collected will stay in the Washington area to support Muscular Dystrophy Association services and research.
The outpatient clinics at Children's National Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospital will benefit, as will the Muscular Dystrophy Association camp in Leonardtown, Md.
Over the past 56 years, firefighters and the fire service donated more than $425 million to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
