Maryland man gets 8 years in child abuse case

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A Frederick man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in a child abuse case involving a 3-year-old boy.

Prosecutors say Patrick Franklin Greene was sentenced Thursday. He pleaded guilty in August to first-degree assault and second-degree child abuse.

Prosecutors say Greene abused the boy in March 2013 after he was left in his care. It’s unclear if the two are related.

Prosecutors say the boy’s injuries included bruising and cuts to his face, upper torso, and scrotum.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says in a statement that Greene “deserves every day of the eight years,” adding that though he didn’t have a prior criminal record, that “does not mitigate the inexcusable acts committed against this child.”

Greene’s attorney, Mary Riley, didn’t immediately respond to a request seeking comment Friday.
