FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a 20-year-old skateboarder was at fault when he hit a deputy's squad car near Frederick, critically injuring the skater.
Sgt. Jennifer Bailey said Wednesday that the investigating deputy found that Andrew Kotzbauer was riding in the southbound bike lane of Spring Ridge Parkway instead of on the designated sidewalk.
Bailey says Kotzbauer was accelerating downhill toward the intersection with Knollwood Drive at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday when Cpl. Corey Borns turned left from the northbound lane. They collided in the intersection, with Kotzbauer striking the right front bumper of the police car.
Bailey says the investigation also determined that the deputy was traveling at a slow rate of speed.
Kotzbauer is in critical condition at Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
