THURMONT, Md. - A Thurmont man is spending two months in jail for killing his friend in a crash that apparently prompted the remorseful driver to attempt suicide.

The Frederick News-Post ( http://bit.ly/Yq3rBN) reports that 19-year-old Seth Fisher was sentenced Thursday in Frederick after pleading guilty to manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the January 2012 accident that killed 18-year-old Brandon Herbert of Thurmont.

Fisher will serve six months on home detention while getting medical treatment and surgeries after his release. The court suspended the rest of a 20-year prison term.

Fisher was charged with negligent manslaughter eight months after Herbert's body was found on a country road. Investigators found Fisher at home with a gunshot wound to the head and his damaged truck in the driveway.
