Maryland State Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash Thursday night as a Washington resident.
Trooper Adam Matthai identified the motorcyclist as Leslie Gerald Sneed, 56.
Sneed was killed Thursday night when he crashed on southbound U.S. 15 just south of the Jefferson Street exit, Trooper First Class Jeremy Hite said Friday.
The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 15, Hite said.
Sneed was traveling south on a Suzuki GS500E when the motorcycle veered on to the grass median, then came out of the grass and ended up on the blacktop shoulder, Hite said.
The motorcycle dropped and skidded about 70 feet with the operator, Hite said. The bike continued to skid for an additional 100 feet until it came to rest against a guardrail.
Sneed was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m., Matthai said.
Hite said he believes this was a one-vehicle crash. Excessive speed does not appear to have been a factor, he said.
The crash is being investigated.
