Online retailers compete through price changes

WASHINGTON - Online retailers are taking price wars to a whole new level this holiday shopping season.
The day before Thanksgiving, Amazon and Walmart stores advertised Dance Central 3, a popular Xbox game, at $49.96, just three cents lower than Target, a New York Times article reports.
The article says that on Thanksgiving Day, Amazon dropped its price to match that of Best Buy's "doorbuster" special, and went even lower when Walmart lowered its price. Amazon continued to change the price of the game, based on its competitors' prices a total of seven times in just seven days.
While retailers may have enjoyed the thrill of the game, customers were not so enthusiastic. The Times reports that some shoppers paid more than three times the price of other buyers.
